The Stand Up Paddle Association of Molokai will hold its second annual Molokai-4-Molokai paddle race this Sunday, July 13, at 1:15 p.m.
The 8.5-mile downwind race starts from Kamalo Harbor and finishes at Hotel Molokai with festivities to welcome the paddlers. The race course is designed for advanced paddlers to take an outside line while recreational paddlers can paddle on the inside of the south shore’s fringed reef.
For the second year, the SUPAM has scheduled the M4M the day after the World Cup of SUP race from Maui to Molokai. Some of the top racers from the Maui-to-Molokai event last year also participated in the M4M paddle, including eventual winner Dave Kissane, who won the SUP open men’s division in a time of 1 hour, 13 minutes, 54 seconds.
To help accommodate Maui paddlers, the SUPAM will help with transportation and lodging. A boat will be taking boards and competitors back to Maui for $40-50 if you stay over for the M4M. Hotel Molokai and Molokai Vacation Properties have offered good deals For off-island paddlers. The SUPAM will take care of Molokai transportation, board storage, shuttle to Kamalo and then to the boat back to Maui.
Register for the M4M at supmolokai.org where you can also pay the entry fee using Paypal. Entry, which includes 2014 SUPAM membership, was $55 before June 30 and is now $65. Entry fee covers two drinks, food, a rash guard T-shirt or tank top.
For those who would like to do race day registration, check in early. There will be a mandatory race day briefing 30 minutes prior to the 1:15 p.m. start at Kamalo beach.
