19-year old male found dead yesterday in Mapulehu area

UPDATE 5/22/14 — On 05/21/14, at approximately 12:37 p.m., Jeffrey K. Davis, a 39-year old male with no local address, was placed under arrest in connection with the murder investigation which occurred on Molokai on 05/20/14, claiming the life of Koshari Kahikili. Davis is currently in custody and has not been formally charged as the investigation is still ongoing.

The Maui Police Department has opened a murder investigation following the discovery of a dead man yesterday morning in the Mapulehu area, 15 miles east of Kaunakakai.

The MPD reported that a man traveling by moped saw a male lying motionless on a dirt roadway at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Kamehameha V Highway and milepost 15.

Officers, medics and fire crews responded to the area to find the unresponsive male laying on the dirt roadway. Attempts to revive the male were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The dead male, identified as Koshari Kahikili, 19, from Mapulehu, apparently sustained a head injury. The death is considered suspicious and the body will be flown to Maui where an autopsy will be performed. The investigation continues.
