Lady Farmers softball team beats Lanai in extra innings

After losing a high-scoring affair to Lanai on Friday, the Molokai High School softball team came back the next day to beat the Pine Lasses 7-6 in extra innings at Duke Maliu Field.

On Friday, a total of 27 runs were scored … in just the first inning! Lanai jumped out to a 17-10 advantage off Molokai pitcher Brooke Keliihoomalu. Precious Rawlins and Kiona English also pitched for the Farmers in the 20-12 loss. For Molokai, Waipuna Kelly-Paleka was 2-for-3 hitting, Saydee Makaiwi was 2-for-4 and Tai Yamamoto contributed a home run.

The game Saturday was a pitching duel in comparison to the day before. After seven innings, both teams were knotted at 3 runs apiece. Lanai led off the eighth inning with three runs before Molokai added four runs in the bottom of the inning to win 7-6. Kysha Kawana was Molokai’s winning pitcher. Kelsie Espiritu-Tanabe finished 1-for-2 in hitting for Molokai and Shailyn Kaholoaa also added a hit in two at bats.

Hana boys volleyball traveled to Molokai last weekend and beat the Farmers in two matches.

Hana, with a strong boys team this year, defeated Molokai in straight sets in both matches. On Friday, Hana won 25-22, 25-15 and 25-21. The score on Saturday was 25-20, 25-23 and 25-18.
