The Molokai Landfill has shortened its hours this week.

The Molokai Landfill has shortened its hours this week.

The schedule changes will allow landfill personnel from Maui to travel to Molokai to cover the staffing shortages. The schedule changes include:

• Opening later on March 18, 19 and 21, at 9:30 a.m.
• Closing early on March 20 and 22, at 12:00 noon

This measure is being taken to ensure the safe operation of the landfill and to meet minimum State Department of Health operating requirements, as mandated by Maui County’s solid waste permit.

The Solid Waste Division apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks the Molokai community for their understanding.

I’ve noticed for a long time that the landfill was extremely understaffed. Despite being understaffed, the employees at the landfill are very polite and helpful and I was always impressed with their excellent service and attitude.
