The Molokai Farmers won their first two games of the Maui Interscholatic League Division II season this weekend at home when Lanai visited on Friday and Saturday.

Senior David Rapanot was the star for Molokai in both games, scoring 21 points Friday night and then another 30 points on Saturday in the two wins.

On Friday, the Farmers fell behind early, trailing 16-10 to Lanai after the first quarter. They were still down 29-27 at halftime but started to take control in the third quarter. With Derek Kahananui adding 10 points, Molokai extended its lead in the fourth quarter to win 60-47.

The next day, Molokai started faster but ended up in a much closer game. After jumping out to an 16-8 first quarter lead, Lanai started fighting back. But with Rapanot’s 30-point effort, combined with 9 points from junior Tani Aikala-Falealii, the Farmers were able to hold on at the end for a 61-59 victory.

With a record of 2-8, the Farmers have two more home games next weekend against St. Anthony. On Friday evening (7 p.m.) will be the homecoming game for the boys’ team, featuring a $10,000 half-court shot at halftime. The Saturday game begins at noon.
