A fallen tree branch led to the loss of electrical power for 1,800 customers of Maui Electric Company on Tuesday afternoon.
At 12:05 p.m. on Tuesday, power was lost in the areas of Kualapu’u, Kalae and the East End. When the tree branch fell it brought down power lines on Kalae Highway, according to Kau’i Awai-Dickson, director of communications for MECO.

Power was restored for 1,400 customers by 1:20 p.m. The remaining customers were back online at 2:58 p.m. once the repairs were completed.

“Maui Electric sincerely thanks customers for their patience as we worked to restore power as quickly and safely as possible,” wrote Dickson in a news release about the power outage.
