To prepare Molokai residents in advance of Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 6-12, the Maui Fire Department will be holding a “Big Show” at the Kaunakakai Ballpark on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The message for this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “Prevent Kitchen Fires!” More fires start in the kitchen than in any other part of the home. Molokai’s local firefighters will help teach people how to keep cooking fires from starting in the first place.

From 9-11 a.m., members of the Maui Fire Department on Molokai will conduct a live burn demonstration. Fire trucks will be on hand along with an MFD helicopter. There will also be a Jaws of Life demonstration.

Everyone is encouraged to attend and visit with Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog. And don’t forget your swimsuit and towel for the wet down after the show. There will be free fire safety giveaways.

Call Molokai Fire Inspector Rick Schonely for more information, 553-8491.
