Molokai High School held its first-ever preseason volleyball tournament, the Molokai Girls Volleyball Classic, over the weekend at The Barn.
Five teams played eight matches in the round robin format on Friday and Saturday. Roosevelt High School in Honolulu took first place in the first Molokai Volleyball Classic.
The Molokai girls team placed third in the tournament with a 4-4 record. The Farmers opened with a loss to the Roosevelt Red team 25-10, 25-17. Molokai came back with a win over Waialua, 25-16 and 25-19 and then another win over the Roosevelt Gold team, 25-16, 26-24. The lady Farmers dropped two sets to Kaiser, 7-25 and 18-25.
The Roosevelt Red team placed first in the tournament. The Red team beat Kaiser 25-18, 25-20 to win the championship. The Roosevelt Gold team finished 4-4 to tie Molokai for third place. Waialua finished last at 0-8.
According to MHS Athletic Director Hoku Haliniak, this was the first such tournament held on Molokai.
“The Honolulu teams were very happy,” said Haliniak. “A huge thank you for all the officials that volunteered their time to come from Oahu and Maui to officiate all the games and all the visiting teams.”
