Relay For Life Molokai begins its annual event to help the American Cancer Society tonight at 6 p.m. at Kaunakakai Ballfield.
The event features teams of participants walking laps around the ballpark from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. all in an effort to raise money in the fight against cancer. For those who walk, it’s their opportunity to not only honor cancer survivors and remember loved ones lost, but also to raise awareness about what we can do to stay well from cancer and raise money to help fuel the world’s largest walk to end cancer.
At this time 22 teams and 228 participants will be joining in the Molokai relay. It begins with an opening ceremony including a high-energy event kickoff. During the event there will be a survivors lap, a caregivers lap and a Luminaria Ceremony to remember those people we have lost to cancer.
A total of $10,302.35 has been raised so far, although this number may not reflect all donations. The top three participants in fundraising are: Olivia Lor ($505), Avette Ponce ($324.84) and Dan Reed ($295). The top three teams are Team Mabuhay ($1,275.51), MHS Faith Walkers ($935) and Team Monsanto ($520).
To find out how to participate, contact Avette Ponce at 553-3171 or show up at the Kaunakakai Ballfield at 6 p.m.
