The Molokai High School baseball team opened Maui Interscholastic League play by winning two home games against Lanai over the weekend.
On Friday in Kaunakakai, the Farmers blew the game open in the third inning with six runs. Another five runs was added in the fourth and fifth innings to make the final score 12-1, Molokai.
Leading hitters for Molokai were Brayden Willing-McCutcheon, who went 2-for-3; David Rapanot 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs; Codi Kamakana 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs and Trevor Takata 2-for-3. The winning pitcher was Lee-Lan Nohi Meyer who finished with nine strikeouts.
The next day, Lanai was able to keep Molokai from putting up a big inning but the Farmers still managed to score in every inning except the sixth on the way to a 6-4 win.
Top hitters for Molokai were Willing-McCutcheon who went 2-for-4 and Nohi Meyer, 3-for 4. The team had nine hits and two errors.
Molokai has a 2-0 MIL record.
In a non-league match Friday at The Barn, Kamehameha Schools Maui swept the Molokai boys in straight sets 25-19, 25-18 and 25-20. Dhavin Spencer-Basa led the way for Molokai with 10 kills.
On Saturday it was more of the same as KSM again swept the Farmers 25-20, 25-17 and 27-25 in non-league competition. Kill leaders for Molokai were Hauoli Falealii with eight and Spencer-Basa also with eight.
