Molokai’s Alexandria Simon was the only local varsity wrestler to take first place in her weight class, winning the title at 117 pounds at the round robin tournament Saturday at Baldwin gym on Maui.
Kuikamoku Han won the junior varsity title at 285 pounds and placed second in varsity competition. Also winning JV titles were Farmer wrestlers Esther Torres Umi at 137 pounds and Cendall Manley at 142 pounds.
The next wrestling tournament for Han, Simon and the rest of the Molokai wrestling team will be this week at the Maui Interscholastic League wrestling championships.
At the Baldwin tournament, Molokai placed eight other varsity wrestlers at different weight classes. Finishing second for Molokai at 140 pounds, in the boys and girls divisions, were Noah Caparida and Esther Torres Umi.
Placing third for Molokai was Sonny Balbas, 125 pounds; Alika Kaahanui, 145; Cody Kawano, 152; Solomon Maliu, 171; Karley Kaulili, 109; Saydee Makaiwi Semitara, 130 and Cendall Manley at 140.
Lahianaluna High School dominated the tournament by winning 15 titles.
