Molokai Lions Club News Release
The Molokai Lions Club announces its “Lions Walk for Sight on Molokai.” This is the first year for what is being planned as an annual statewide event.
On Saturday, Sept. 29, Lions and volunteers will walk around the center of Kaunakakai in Lions T-shirts in an effort to raise funds in support of their commitment to improve the quality of sight for Molokai residents.
All funds raised will stay on Molokai. This is part of a week long, statewide project involving all 63 Lions clubs on the major Hawaiian islands. It will culminate the following Saturday with a food drive to collect cans and other non-perishable items for distribution through Molokai’s food banks.
The walk will start with registration at 8 a.m. on Sept. 29 in front of the Kalele Bookstore on Ala Malama Street. The walkers will proceed through the sidewalk bazaar, east on the highway to the Molokai Drive-Inn, around the corner back to Ala Malama Street and return to the bookstore.
How many times can you walk this route? For those who wish to join us, you may pick-up a pledge sheet with instructions at Kalele Bookstore at any time during the week of Sept. 24. The bookstore will also be the place where you can drop off your food items on Saturday, Oct. 6. A special thanks to Auntie Teri for supporting our walk!
Monsanto has accepted the role of being our major sponsor for this event. Through their generous support, we will be able to bring the vision van back to Molokai in November and to provide for the Maui eye doctors who assist in the screening of our keiki in the spring.
The Molokai Chamber of Commerce has also been supportive through its president, Lion Rob Stephenson. Additional information can be obtained from Lion Bob Dreyer at 552-0342.
