The Kainalu Forest on Molokai’s East End

Filemon (David) Nanod testified that he wanted to attend college on Molokai on the G.I. Bill following his 1947 discharge from the Army. When the G.I. Bill was reinstated in 1968 Molokai finally offered college classes through Maui Community College. Nanod, who has earned two associates degrees on Molokai, testified about the importance of expanding the the Maui College campus.

Maui County firefighters fought a Kalamaula brush fire that burned 200 acres in January. Another smaller brush fire was reported Monday in the same area that burned three acres.

The top high school winner was Moriah Jenkins, a senior at Molokai High School. As the top senior project, she will represent Maui County at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in May in Pittsburgh, PA. The Intel ISEF is the “Super Bowl” of science fairs with the top prize winning a $100,000 scholarship. Over $4 million in scholarships are distributed at this event every year.

On the Big island, planning and design for renovation of the existing water tunnel system in the Ka’u area is one of the statewide irrigation improvement projects.

When Seabury visited Molokai last year its team got blown out by the Farmers. Unfortunately for Molokai the result was not repeated Friday night when the Spartans topped Molokai 23-20 at War Memorial Stadium on Maui.
