The Molokai Humane Society is in the process of several positive changes with the July 1 beginning of its 2011-2012 fiscal year.
With a budget increased from approximately $40,000 a year to an estimated $270,000, the local non-profit group announced it will be hiring a full-time veterinarian to come to Molokai. At this time, a temporary vet is usually scheduled to be on-island only twice a week.
Right now, the MoHS seeks a full-time executive director to head the organization and provide the necessary leadership to continue its work with Molokai’s animals.
The recently advertised position looks for a candidate with at least four years employment experience with a nonprofit, successful grant writing and fundraising experience, at least two years of board volunteer experience and management experience. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
The executive director will be asked to implement and execute the strategic goals and objectives of the organization and work with the MoHS chair to make sure its board fulfills its governance function. The right candidate will give direction and leadership toward the achievement of the organization’s philosophy, mission, strategy, long range and annual goals and objectives.
This gives the director many responsibilities including the oversight of marketing and promotion and the management of finances, including fundraising. The director will also be in charge of community and public relations.
The director will oversee the human resources, which are in the process of expanding. A part-time bookkeeper has already been hired, Hoala Davis. A part-time vet assistant will also be hired. Preference will be given to Molokai residents. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Application deadline is July 15. Contact the MoHS at P.O. Box 1258, Kaunakakai HI, 96748. For more information, visit www.molokaihumanesociety.org or call 558-0000.
