Boys volleyball splits two with Hana

In a preview to Wednesday’s semifinal showdown between Molokai and Hana in the Maui Interscholastic League Division II boys volleyball tournament, the two teams split a pair of matches over the weekend.

On Friday night, Anu Maliu-Calairo had 13 kills and Paka Adolpho had 11 kills, two blocks and two aces to lead the Molokai High School boys volleyball team to a closely contested sweep of Hana.

The Farmers won the match 25-23, 29-27, 28-26. Dahvin Spencer Basa added six kills and Nainoa Langer had 45 assists, three kills, two aces and a block for Molokai.

The Dragons got their revenge the following afternoon, rallying from a 2-1 set deficit to beat the Farmers in five sets. The set scores were 17-25, 25-12, 13-25, 25-18 and 15-6.

Brahunson Kaai led Molokai with 12 kills and two blocks. Paka Adolpho added eight kills and two aces. The Farmers regular season record is 4-7.

Wednesday’s semifinal match will be at King Kekaulike gym on Maui.

Softball playoffs begin tomorrow

The Molokai girls softball team has been seeded second in the MIL Division II tournament. The Farmers challenge Kalaheo in tomorrow’s first-round game starting at 7 p.m. Hana is the MIL Division II number-1 seed and will play Waialua. Both games to be played at Central Oahu Regional Park field 1.
