Farmers open MIL softball season with two wins

The Molokai girls softball team opened its Maui Interscholastic League season over the weekend with two big wins over Lanai in Kaunakakai.

Friday’s game ended after three innings with the lady Farmers blowing out the visiting Pine Lasses 17-2. Amanda Makaiwi had a double for the Farmers, who drew eight walks for the game. Molokai’s Jasmine Borden pitched a two-hitter.

On Saturday, Molokai won by another lopsided score, 23-7 in six innings. Makaiwi was the winning pitcher with Larriley Rawlins catching.

The game stayed fairly close until the final two innings when the Farmers scored 16 runs. Top hitters for Molokai were Tyra Reyes-Garces who went 2-for-5 with a home run, Rawlins, 3-for-3 with a triple, and Makaiwi going 2-for-5.

The next home games for the Farmers are March 25 at 4 p.m. and 26 at 10 a.m. against St. Anthony.
