The second-seeded Molokai girls basketball team will not return to the Division II state championship title game for the third straight year after getting knocked off by Maryknoll 43-41 last night at Kaimuki gym.

Despite scoring a game high 33 points, senior Kalei Adolpho could not make two free throws with seven seconds left that would have given the wahine Farmers the lead.

Molokai battled back from a 39-32 deficit with five minutes left in the state quarterfinal game. The Farmers came within one point at 42-41 before Adolpho missed her free throws. Behind Adolpho, the next highest scorer in the game was Ashlee DeSantos of Maryknoll with 12 points.

Also scoring for Molokai were Kyli Joe Mawae with six points and Amanda Venegas Makaiwi with two.

Molokai was the state runner-up last year and in 2009 won the Division II state championship.

On Saturday, Lahainaluna High School beat Molokai 60-41 in a scrimmage at the Lahaina Civic Center. Adolpho led the Farmers with 13 points followed by Mawae with 12 points in the game.

Molokai will play University tonight at 7 p.m. in the fifth place consolation game at Kaimuki gym.
