The Molokai girls basketball team won its first, and only, two home games of the year in convincing fashion, defeating Seabury Hall twice.
On Friday, the wahine Farmers, last year’s Division II state runner-ups, showed that they haven’t lost much since last year. After falling behind 10-8 after the first quarter, Molokai dominated the final three quarters and topped Seabury 51-27. Senior Kalei Adolpho led the way with 21 points, followed by Marissa Sterner with 13. For Seabury, Trina Valencia was the leading scorer with 16.
The next day it was more of the same. Once again, Molokai lost the first quarter, this time 12-10. But the slow start didn’t phase the team as they held Seabury to only 22 more points in the game. The final score was 57-34. Adolpho, who will be attending University of Hawaii next year on a basketball scholarship, once again was the leading scorer with 20 points. Kyli Joe added 16 and Sterner put in 11 points. Valencia was again the top scorer for Seabury with 14 points.
The two games are the girls’ only home games during the Maui Interscholastic League season. With a 4-0 MIL record, the girls go to St. Anthony next weekend for two games. Meanwhile, the St. Anthony boys team comes to Molokai Friday and Saturday for two games at The Barn.
