Maui County received an early Christmas present on Tuesday when local officials announced that Maui will be receiving its own minor league baseball team.
Na Ikaika Koa Maui, which translates to “the strong warriors of Maui,” is the name of the team that will play in the newly-formed Maui Golden Baseball League. Kuma hula Hi’ilei Maxwell-Juan offered the name. The team colors are black, red, yellow and green.
Cory Snyder, a former major league player and member of the U.S. Olympics baseball team, will serve as team manager. Games will be played in Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailuku.
