Molokai Planning Commission rejects Maui County zoning bill

| October 23, 2009 | 0 Comments

Last week, the Molokai Planning Commission exempted Molokai from two Maui County bills that will make it easier to convert agriculturally zoned land to rural residential.

The first bill will add three layers for lots with a minimum of two, five and 10 acres within rural residential zones. This planning tool will make it easier for gentlemen estates on agricultural land to convert to residential zones, explained Joe Alueta, Maui County’s administrative planning officer.

The second bill allows affordable accessory dwelling buildings on lots of 6,000 to 7,500 square feet. The commissioners and all who testified unanimously agreed that both bills were unnecessary and possibly conflict with the Molokai community plan.
