Shell Va’a once again dominated the Molokai Hoe men’s outrigger canoe championship by winning for the fourth year in a row yesterday.
The Tahiti team missed breaking its own 2007 record for crossing the Kaiwi Channel by only 1 minute, 42 seconds. The winning time of 4 hours 40 minutes, 17 seconds, more than 12 minutes ahead of second place Team Primo from Hawaii.
By winning four years in a row, Shell Va’a is second only to Waikiki Surf Club that won six in a row from 1958-63. A record 112 teams participated in this year’s Molokai Hoe race.
