Starting today, the 2009 Festivals of Aloha returns to Molokai. The theme this year is E Mau Ka Hooilina Kupuna, which means “Continue the Ancestral Legacy.”
For the past 50 years the Molokai community has come together to celebrate with its Royal Court, onolicious food, games, dance and memorable entertainment. It all begins at 6:30 p.m. with the investiture of royalty at the Mitchell Pauole Center. Molokai crowns its Moi Kane (King) and Moi Wahine (Queen) who will reign over the 2009 Festivals of Aloha. Makana (gifts) are welcome as an offering and mahalo to the Royal Court.
A special kupuna show is also planned for tonight as part of the festival.
Tomorrow night is youth night for the Festivals of Aloha. It begins at 7 p.m. at the Mitchell Pauole Center.
The big parade begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday in downtown Kaunakakai with the hoolaulea following at 10 a.m. For more information on the Festivals of Aloha call Moana or Raquel Dudoit at 553-3356.
