Maui County Council bans genetic modification of taro

In a victory for opponents of the genetic modification of taro, Maui County Bill 09-100, which amends the county code to prohibit genetically engineered and recombinant DNA taro, passed unanimously 9-0 last week by the county council. Maui now joins Hawaii, Molokai, Lanai and Kaho’olawe as Hawaii islands that ban genetic modification of kalo.

The Farmers clinched the Maui Interscholastic League title in convincing fashion this weekend with two sweeps of St. Anthony in girls volleyball Friday and Saturday at The Barn. Single lane closures on Kam V Highway all week

Storm drain modifications and pavement resurfacing will be taking place all week along Kamehameha V Highway from Mile Post 5 to Mile Post 7. The Department of Transportation says to expect alternating single lane closures in both directions from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily through Friday.
