Briefs: Kolapa House gets reprieve; Hawaii unemployment figures dip

On August 7, the Molokai news blog reported that the Kolapa House of Charity, a homeless shelter in Kaunakakai, would be going up for auction that day. According to KGMB9 News, the sale has been forestalled by a bankruptcy filing and a new loan. With this new loan, Steve Jenkins, owner of the home across the street from the Molokai Youth Center, will be able to continue offering temporary shelter to those in need.

Good news from the State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations as Hawai’i unemployment figures dipped to 7 percent in July from 7.3 percent in June as more residents found jobs.

On Molokai and Lanai, the unemployment rates continue to be above 10 percent.
